Rust Devils

When Iron Alley first took shape from makeshift buildings built close to the thriving industrial sector, its population grew faster than the government could keep up. With little official oversight and few resources devoted to security, a power vacuum emerged, allowing gangs to take control of much of the district’s protection. Over time, many of these smaller gangs merged under a single banner, eventually becoming the organization now known as the Rust Devils.

The Rust Devils quickly established themselves as the unofficial protectors of Iron Alley. They collect fees from local businesses in exchange for security, filling a role that the government largely abandoned. With many vagrants living throughout the district and businesses lacking the resources to deal with theft, vandalism, and violence on their own, the Rust Devils became a necessary presence. For many shop owners, they were not exactly trusted, but they were better than having no protection at all.

Their influence grew even further when NeuroBliss hit the streets. The drug was too expensive for many people in Iron Alley, but the Rust Devils discovered that bootleg versions were almost as effective as the real thing and far cheaper to produce and sell. What began as another source of income quickly became too profitable to ignore, and before long, bootleg NeuroBliss had become a major part of the Rust Devils’ business.

The money and influence that came with their growing operation changed the Rust Devils’ place in Iron Alley society. Some members became powerful figures who were even respected by the locals. For young men growing up in Iron Alley, the Rust Devils offered something that few legitimate institutions could: a path to money, status, and influence. In a dysfunctional district where opportunities were scarce, joining the gang became one of the clearest ways to move up in the world.
