Nature Alley

Nature Alley is a forgotten region of the old Iron Alley, abandoned for decades and, in some places, hundreds of years as factories, warehouses, and industrial facilities slowly fell into disrepair. With little human activity left, nature began reclaiming the district, covering rusted machinery and crumbling buildings with trees, vines, moss, and other growth. Today, small pockets of life have returned to the area, with off-grid residents, pop-up businesses, and wildlife making use of the ruins while much of Nature Alley remains quiet and largely abandoned.

Some of the district’s oldest reminders of its industrial past are the factories that still stand, with several more than 300 years old. Their rusted walls and massive steel frames remain as remnants of an industrial age the city has largely forgotten, while trees grow through broken windows, vines cover old machinery, and roots push through concrete floors. Over decades of neglect, these once-busy factories have become towering green ruins where nature has slowly reclaimed the spaces people abandoned.

Among these ruins, some citizens have chosen to go off the grid and establish small bases within Nature Alley, using abandoned industrial spaces, old workshops, and reclaimed buildings as homes and hideouts. Away from the city’s main districts, they can live with fewer rules, less surveillance, and little interference from corporations, allowing them to repair equipment, grow food, and build quiet lives among the overgrowth. Their presence is still sparse, but it has helped bring small pockets of activity back to the forgotten district.

That limited human presence has also given rise to a handful of makeshift businesses scattered throughout the overgrown ruins. Residents, travelers, and Naturas supporters have turned old storefronts, garages, and sheltered corners into pop-up restaurants and makeshift cafés, serving simple food beneath hanging lights and reclaimed structures. These quiet gathering spots provide a small sense of community.

Life in Nature Alley is not limited to the people who have chosen to settle there. Loose cybernetic animals roam the streets, descendants of pets abandoned by their owners or test subjects that escaped from corporate laboratories. Some still wear old collars, tags, or pieces of their original implants. Most are peaceful and keep their distance, gradually becoming an accepted part of the reclaimed district as residents leave food and water for them.
